Program Notes

Klar zum Gefecht was published in 1912. The title was a naval term which was used in preparing for combat similar to “all hands on deck, man the guns, or action front.”

This march was first published by Louis Oertel in Hanover as op. 62; by 1912 it had found its way across the channel to the English firm Hawkes & Son. The title was a military term which was used in preparation for combat. The German title translates to "Clear for Action"; the British Royal Navy equivalent is "Action Stations"; the Royal Artillery meaning is the same as the march title, Action Front.
