Program Notes

A.D.G. Fanfare (2015) was originally written as an orchestral film score cue and was rewritten for band in 2015. The composer offers the following about the work:

A.D.G. Fanfare was written as a gift to my best friend Austin, whose initials are A and D (with G added). As a visual artist, Austin has the great ability to capture multiple moods, ideas, and personalities within one work. A.D.G. Fanfare was my attempt to capture a glimpse of the talent that Austin embodies.

The work is meant to embody the feeling of downtown New York City. It features various instruments of the ensemble, each one acting out a character in a scene; whether it is a cab driver trying to weave in and out of traffic, or a coffee shop patron who has just spilled his/her coffee, it generates a feeling of hurriedness while still maintaining this sense of joy and adventure. (I don’t know of a better place that contains so much variety of life than NYC.)
